Made up of 12 Layers

This guy took forever!

Note, you can see through this guy if you look close. Comes ready to hang either horizontal or vertical - no need to add your own mounting hardware.

Creating each piece of art takes a long time. Having the laser cutter help with the cutting has increased the speed for a one layer piece of work significantly. So, then cutting 12 layers, feels a bit like we’re stepping backwards (in terms of production). Pouring that extra time back into the medium really makes for captivating imagery. While designing 12 separate layers for one piece can be a daunting task, I wouldn’t want it any other way. When I can finally stack them up and see what I’ve made, it really pays off. Well, I take that back. About 20% of the time I realize one is a total failure and it looks stupid - into the trash! The one you see here survived the test.

Every piece is made in my little shop here in Southern NJ. Each piece is constructed from various plywoods, which means that each one turns out slightly different depending on the grain and how the wood accepts the stain. Most commonly Mahogany, Red Oak, and White Birch. The different layers are sometimes stained different colors in order to bring out the design's depth. It also adds more aesthetic texture to an already lively appearance. Note, the appearance will change throughout the day depending on the light.
